Dah dah! The day has arrived. The room is prepared. Hats are ready for Karl hanging on the drip stand. He received advice at 8pm last night that if he slept through the night with regular O2 and the reservoir mask, didn’t desaturate or have difficulty breathing then he could leave ICU today. All went well. So he is coming to share my room some time today!!!
He will stay on regular oxygen for the day, and night also, and we will closely monitor his sats, heart rate and breathing.
This is a very exciting day for both of us. I feel like a 5-year old waiting for a birthday present! Karl feels like its Xmas.
Fingers crossed all goes well over the next 24 hours.
Plan is for a CT scan in a few days to look at lung recovery.
